Fight the good fight of faith, and take hold of eternal life, many of us in the kingdom today are yet to fully understand these profound words from the apostle Paul whose very life experience defines and connotes the word "fight". The time has come and now is when the true believer must understand that our very existence is a fight. But the bless me club mentality that wē have in the church today have made us to be pacifist unto death and prevented us from contending for our Faith.
Marriage is a walk of Faith for the believer.God will have it no other way. If it were not so then every marriage will be a sin for it is written without Faith it is impossible to please God and anything done without Faith is a sin. Our neglect to fight for our marriage and families have strued our churches with casualties of war that is raging every day.because the casualty rates are increasing,wē have become experts mostly at mending and fixing what is broken. Do not get me wrong am all for the numerous para-church ministeries,they are great and serve their purpose but we ought to have started at the root cause,that îs building a tradition of praying for and contending for our marriages .
In 1 samuel30 we see David fighting for his family.In verse8 "and David inquired of the Lord shall i pursue this raiding party will i overtake them,God's response was imediate and strong pursue You shall surely overtake and recover all.And God gave them victory.He rescued his family.Every church must ensure that there are strategic,systematic prayers Made for marriages and the family.otherwise soon there will be no marriages no families which means no church.Like king David we must make sure that the Goliath in our time,which îs without controversy the spirit of divorce be destroyed and become as nothing of we want to see marriages prosper and abide.King David and his mighty men did not rest until Goliath and all the Anakims the descendants of giants were destroyed in the land of Israel.
The famous phrase from the Movie "Fire Proof,says you do not leave behind a partener in a fire".this îs the mindset God wants us to have in coming to the marriage ,it îs for better for worse till death do us part.I know times have changed ,our cultures have become more anti-Christ in nature that should not suprise us in the church God had warned us in His word ,a glance Romans chapter one tells the story .Fight the good Fight so that divorce and all the evil it brings will become an IF, that îs a very exception to the rule,something that happens once in a very long time. Îs this very ambitious,too difficult for our God.The answer is a resounding no. Nothing is impossible with him,not even man's frailties and failures can stop.Marriage is dear to God's heart.All through scriptures He compares His relationship to us as a marriage.
In Hosea,God speaking through the prophet through several experiences said to the nation of Israel " do not call me Baal as in lord but call me husband hosea2vs16. It is also important to understand that fighting for your marriage is a litmus test for your willingness and commitment to fight to uphold your relationship with God. If you are quitting your marriage because of difficult times,don't be so sure you will not quit on when God when trials arise in your walk with God because they must surely come.
God wants us to be able to say like Peter "to whom shall we go to ,you alone have the words of eternal life. In the same way marriage is a life time commitment ,till death do us part. Death alone has been given the authority to end the marriage covenant. The church as corporate body must rise up to join the more than 51 percent of Christian families facing divorce. Next time will look at the the biggest losers ,and how to fight this Goliath that is threatening God's elect.
