There are many barriers or walls stopping or limiting us from fulfilling our God given destinies. Whether they are racial, ethnic and tribal, gender related barriers,generational as to age, and even spiritual walls are every where limiting destinies from being fulfilled.
By shear faith and the grace of God, who delights in pushing down man made boundaries that limits, many people in scriptures have dared to break these walls and cross generational gaps. some of these are women whom societies in their time,were not given the least chance to make it. One of such women was Rahab a prostitute, who by faith believed in the God of the Jews, when she and her country men quaking by thoughts of what God has done to other nations that did not believe in Him. she broke both the racial and gender barriers by hiding the spies, and thus saved her life and her family.
Ruth a Moabite woman whose people God had decreed will not enter the congregation of Israel up to 10 generations, broke also the race and generations gaps.
These two women by faith and grace became part of the generation and genealogy of the holy son of God Jesus Christ our Lord and savior.
My question for us early this year is what is stopping us. If these two women who had no hope, for it was almost impossible to be part of the people of God,at the time because the laws forbid it, and more over they were women in a time when women were never given opportunity, made it, am persuaded you and i can break down the walls that seek to limit us.
Cornelius a Roman soldier living in the land of Israel was a proselyte of Judaism, who loved God with all of his heart. There was no love lost between the Jews and the Romans who were in occupation ruling the Jews, but this Roman soldier loved the God of the Jews passionately. In Acts 10 scripture says he was a devout man who feared God and prayed always and gave alms to the poor.
This man's faith broke the racial barriers between Jews and gentiles when with courage he sent for Peter to come to his and share the gospel with him. God honored his faith and courage, and so God persuaded Peter the apostle to break every protocol governing racial relationship to go to the gentiles house.
Faith and courage is an unbeatable combination that breaks down every barrier and causes us to go and do things we will never dream of. Cornelius faith and courage made him the first gentile to hear and receive the gospel, but he opened the door for the gospel to come to the gentiles, and prepared Paul to be the apostle to the gentiles. Without Cornelius, the rest of the world will still probably be without the gospel, until God finds a man that will be bold and courageous to break down the walls of limitations. This generation seem to have forgotten that the scriptures says of Jesus that 'He has broken down the middle wall of partition that separated us, so that there is now no Jew, gentile, or barbarian'.
When Jesus came He became the greatest bridge connecting generations, races, tribes, genders, classes, His name became '' the friend of sinners''.He ate with them, talked with them, sought them out to heal, comfort and pray for them.
This year God is looking for men and women who will break barriers and be the bridge connecting peoples to the savior of the whole world. But we must be courageous and not be afraid. we must be praying people whose will be filled with love and compassion for others
Joshua1vs9 '' Have I not commanded you, Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid nor be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you where ever you go''.This is the third time Joshua was being admonished to be strong and courageous in one chapter. This is the promise of God for every believer if we dare to arise and break the barriers stopping the move of the gospel.
